It seems to me that selecting the right cosmetic surgical procedure today is a bit like shopping for a box of Wheat Thins. Years ago, we had our choice of the Original product, Low Sodium or Reduced Fat. Similarly, a generation or two ago, aesthetic plastic surgery consisted of a very short list of options: facelift (rhytidectomy), eyelid lift (eyelidplasty), and browlift (aka forehead lift), along with the occasional chemical peel or dermabrasion. Today all that has changed.

Recession Cuts into Plastic Surgery, but Number of Botox Procedures Rises
The struggling economy cut into the cosmetic surgery business last year, but a doctor said he expects demand to return once the recession eases. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons said surgical cosmetic procedures fell to 1.7 million, a 9 percent drop from 2007. Breast augmentation dropped 12 percent to 307,000 procedures, and liposuction procedures fell 19 percent. While surgeries fell, lower-impact cosmetic procedures such as Botox injections rose 5 percent.

Survey Finds That Women Are More Likely to Consider Plastic Surgery
NEW YORK, March 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A new survey shows that more than half (56%) of all Americans approve of cosmetic plastic surgery and nearly one-third (30%) say they would consider having cosmetic surgery themselves, either now or in the future.

Reloxin: The New Botox
Reloxin is a new botulinum toxin type A product, the first to compete with Allerrgan’s powerhouse Botox formula. Early studies show that it appears to be well-tolerated and effective after repeated treatments, according to research published in the March/April Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery.
